Peerstar℠ provides certified peer support services and forensic peer support services to individuals in Pennsylvania. Peerstar℠ also partners with other peer support providers in Pennsylvania and nationwide, providing complete management solutions and expertise to help them increase their clinical/regulatory integrity, efficiency and revenue while decreasing administrative burdens.

Mental Health Peer Support Services: Peerstar LLC℠ provides recovery-based certified peer support services to individuals recovering from mental illnesses and/or substance abuse disorders who are eligible to receive Medical Assistance (Medicaid) from the Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare.

Forensic Peer Support Services: Peerstar℠ also provides specialized forensic peer support services in prisons and in the community to individuals involved with the criminal justice system who are suffering from mental illnesses and/or substance abuse disorders. Peerstar℠ is a national leader in providing forensic peer support services, and we are the first provider in Pennsylvania to use a research university-based program and curriculum. Our in-jail program includes re-entry planning and evidence-based Citizenship Group classes to assist individuals in returning to the community and breaking the cycle of re-incarceration. We work closely with law enforcement, corrections, probation and parole and the judiciary. Peerstar's forensic peer support program was developed in a unique partnership with the Yale University School of Medicine Program for Recovery and Community Health.

Dual Diagnosis Peer Support:

Dual Diagnosis Peer Support is a peer support program that serves individuals with MA funding that are suffering from mental illnesses, serious emotional disturbances and intellectual disabilities with the goal of supporting individuals in their recoveries. Dual Diagnosis Peer Support and Dual Diagnosis Transition Peer Support are designed to help the individual work on the goals they feel will help in their own recovery.

Certified Peer Support Specialists (CPS) specifically trained in Dual Diagnosis Peer Support possesses unique experiences with the mental health and intellectual disabilities, fostering supportive understanding with those that have similar histories. CPS’ lived experience in these areas help to provide an in-depth awareness of the impact, culture & stigmas of the mental health.

CPS’ for Dual Diagnosis Transition Peer Support are specifically trained to help the individual move through transitions such as vocational, community/social inclusion and wellness/recovery. These goals are designed to be worked on in a limited amount of time. CPS are trained to help in the short amount of time to transition the peer to the next part of their lives.

CPS’ assist individuals in accessing mental health and substance abuse services, provide crisis support, develop natural supports, promote self-advocacy, support individuals in reconnecting with family, address basic needs of housing, employment, wellness and benefits, and providing support while navigating service providers (formal supports). Peer Support is a mobile service in which CPS come to the individual (home/hospital/rehab/community).  As is with traditional peer support services, Dual Diagnosis services are available to those individuals with a dual diagnosis and who are eligible to receive Medical Assistance (Medicaid) from the Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare. In addition, eligible participants are/have:

- 18 years or older

- have a serious mental health illness or serious emotional disturbance

-diagnosed with an intellectual disability

-motivated to recover and change

Specialized Peer Support for Co-occurring Disorders:

As a national leader in Forensic Peer Support, we are excited to now offer specialized Peer Support Services for individuals with co-occurring disorders.

 

Peer Support for individuals with co-occurring disorders is a one-on-one adult mentoring program funded by the Pennsylvania DPW for individuals struggling with a co-occurring diagnosis for a mental health disorder and a substance use disorder.

 

Certified Peer Specialists with additional training in co-occurring disorders provide the following types of services: assisting individuals in accessing mental health and substance use services and supporting them in their recovery, linking to support groups, developing community roles and natural supports, promoting self-advocacy, supporting individuals in reconnecting with their families, addressing basic needs of housing, employment, wellness and benefits, recovery planning and community re-integration after incarceration, compliance with probation and parole, and assisting in developing a relapse prevention plan.

 

The goal of Specialized Peer Support Services for individuals with co-occurring disorders is to support individuals struggling with mental illness and substance abuse disorders in meeting their goals, decrease the need for inpatient stays and to reduce the risk of further involvement in the criminal justice system. 

 

As is with traditional peer support services, specialized co-occurring services are available to those individuals with co-occurring diagnoses and who are eligible to receive Medical Assistance (Medicaid) from the Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare. In addition, eligible participants are/have:

- 18 years or older

-diagnosed with a substance use disorder
