Peer support met me exactly where I was at while incarcerated, and that service was truly life-changing. I began my journey four years ago by becoming a Certified Peer Specialist, and since joining Peerstar, I've specialized in forensic peer support, co-occurring peer support, dual diagnosis, and empowered aging. I've served individuals in county jails, co-facilitated Crisis Intervention Training simulations, and recently stepped into a mentor role for new staff. I've been blessed to turn my pain into purpose, and I encourage anyone to set goals and take the time to love yourself.

I love working at Peerstar because it gives me an opportunity to use my lived experience to make a difference. Years ago, at my lowest point, a peer support specialist helped me turn the corner and truly begin my recovery journey. That planted the seed for me to want to provide that same hope, encouragement, and boost in self worth for others. I'm proud to say I've done that at Peerstar, and I'm thrilled to now train new CPSs to be that beacon of hope for their peers.

Peerstar has been a game changer for me. I know when I was struggling the hardest with my mental health it was those around me going through similar situations that helped me the most. To be able to work for a company that is recovery driven, to show up for others in some of their hardest situations and be able to provide hope when it can seem so bleak is such a blessing beyond words for me. To be able to celebrate small and big victories, to see their progress it keeps giving me hope too. I may show up for the peers but in return they are showing up for me too.

Being a Certified Peer Specialist allows me to turn the hardest chapters of my journey into a tool for hope. I especially love bringing this passion into senior living communities, helping older adults find their voices, navigate transitions, and reclaim their independence. I'm honored to be that steady, non-judgmental presence in their corner.
