Carla's Recovery Story: Faith, Recovery, and Purpose
About This Story

Carla Povich’s journey from a small Pennsylvania town to becoming a Certified Peer Support Specialist at Pillar is a powerful testament to resilience. Her story navigates the complexities of childhood trauma, the discovery of family secrets, and a long battle with opiate addiction. After a period of "playing the game" and facing an other-than-honorable discharge from the Navy, Carla reached a turning point in 1995 when she chose to pursue a better life for her children, eventually finding her calling in recovery leadership.

Today, Carla uses her lived experience to supervise others and serve her community as a pastor’s wife in part-time ministry. Her life demonstrates how individuals can transform their deepest struggles into a source of hope for others.

I heard it, the voice of God say so clearly to my soul, 'No, you won't. This thing has you.’ Everything that went wrong in my life, everything bad, God took it and is now using it for his purpose.
