Before recovery, Daniel’s life was chaotic and exhausting. His days revolved around survival and substance use. Unemployed and relying on Social Security, he often sought financial help from family members who unknowingly enabled his addiction. His routine became painfully repetitive—isolating in his apartment, drinking throughout the day, and frequenting local bars at night—only to wake up and repeat the cycle. He describes that period as one of the lowest points of his life, marked by hopelessness and emotional depletion.
The turning point came when he reached a place of complete exhaustion—physically, emotionally, and spiritually. As a father of three, Daniel recognized he had already missed much of his two oldest children’s lives. When he gained full custody of his youngest son, something shifted. For the first time in a long time, he felt a sense of purpose and accomplishment. He knew he had the opportunity to become the father he had always wanted to be, but it required change.
Peer support played a critical role in his recovery journey. Two Certified Peer Specialists helped him rebuild confidence, set goals, and believe that progress was possible. With additional support from a dedicated case manager, Daniel began creating structure and stability in his life. Through recovery, he found not only sobriety but identity.
